Former Manchester United youth product reveals why he chose Everton over The Red Devils
In a recent interview with The Times, Everton FC midfielder admitted that he had a chance to go back to Manchester United but turned it down because of wanting to play regular football.
Keane admitted that he wanted to play more often in the first team of Everton rather than sit on the bench for The Red Devils. The former Burnley player played a first full season last campaign and was admired by numerous Premier League managers with his performance. His performances for The Clarets last season also earned him a call up to the England national team, when they played against Germany in March.
The 24 year old had many eye catching performances and was pursued by both The Red Devils and The Toffees. Keane chose to join Ronald Koeman’s side where he knew he could get to play on a much more regular basis.
Keane signed for a transfer fee of 31 million earlier this year a deal that will keep him at the Goodison Park for five years. He has since then featured in every Everton match this season, and has played every minute for the club. During his interview with Times, Keane stated that United were in touch with him and his agent, and showed a lot of interest in him.
“They were in touch with my agent and showed a lot of interest. They wanted me, but a few things happened and I thought Everton would be the best place for me to come.”- Michael Keane.
The former Manchester United youth player also said that during his time at Burnley he wasn’t a fan of The Red Devils like he used to be. He later added that he chose Everton over their Merseyside rivals Liverpool FC.
