Dortmund seals an emphatic victory over Koln to reside at the top of the pack
On Sunday evening, Borussia Dortmund welcomed FC Koln to the Westfalenstadion. With three defeats in three matches, Koln came into this one being bottom of the Bundesliga table. Peter Stoger’s men are yet register their first points on board for this season, and are already struggling to keep up with other teams in the league.
Their clash against Dortmund was no different either, braces from Maximilian Phillip and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped Dortmund thrash “The Billy Goats” 5-0.
Dortmund are still undefeated this season, alongside second placed Hannover an fifth place Hoffenheim. Peter Bosz’s side is sitting at the top of the Bundesliga table with ten points. Hannover are right behind them also with ten but thanks to the goal difference BVB will stay at first place, for now.
Dortmund dominated this game from start to finish; they headed into the break with a 2-0 lead. When the match resumed in the second half defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos also got in the scoresheet and Aubameyang bagged his double which completely thrashed Koln. Andriy Yarmolenko was also impressive on the night for Bosz’s men; the Ukranian posed as a complete threat throughout the match.
Koln, who lost their mid-week Europa League clash against Arsenal FC never, got the chance to recover from Phillip’s second minute goal in this match.
Koln, who have now lost four games in a row have a minus 11 goal difference which is the second worst start for a team in Bundesliga history. As for Dortmund, they are currently unbeaten for 40 matches in a row at their home stadium.
