Jardim’s men bounce back as Falcao scores a brace
AS Monaco played 19th place Strasbourg on Saturday evening. Monaco who are currently sitting at second place of the Ligue 1 table, have 15 points on the board, same as table toppers Paris Saint Germain.
Jardim’s men suffered a 4-0 loss in their last Ligue 1 match at the hands of Nice, they were also held to a 1-1 draw by Leipzig in the Champions League in mid week.
Monaco started the match bright; when Stefan Jovetic saw his shot come off the crossbar in the first seven minutes of the match. For Strasbourg, Jean Eudes Aholou came close to scoring in the 34th minute but his header went over the bar, whereas he should have found the net missing a relatively easy chance.
The first goal came 10 minutes later when Rachid Ghezzal played Roni Lopes, who scored from close range and gave Jardim’s side the lead. The first half ended 1-0 in Monaco’s favour.
Six minutes into the second half and Monaco doubled their lead via Radamel Falcao, who tapped in the ball from six yard range after receiving a cross from Jurge.
Starsbourg came close to scoring their first of the match but were denied by Diego Benaglio who made a tremendous save to keep the score 2-0.
Falcao had managed to put the ball in the back of the net once again but the goal was ruled out due to offside. But seven minutes later, the Colombian striker did get his second goal and Monaco’s third, when he lashed in the ball after Kader Mangane went to the ground allowing the Monaco number nine to pick up the win.
