Serie A Match Preview: Genoa vs Lazio

Simone Inzaghi’s mission for a productive season continues with a trip to Genoa.

Lazio cling on to their confidence, accepting Genoa’s challenge after 100% start to the new season.

Lazio began their campaign by winning the Italian Supercup defeating league champions Juventus. They carried their energy in the league and collected an immense 7 points in the opening three fixtures and were boosted by a European victory over Vitesse after crushing giants Ac Milan 4-1 at Stadio Olympico.

Amidst their startling performance, Inzaghi will be very much concerned of what is going on the back. In the game against Vitesse on Matchday 1 of the Europa league, which they won 3-2, the side from Rome allowed two goals to ring the back of the net. That defensive mishap was eye catching. Those two goals which would had been dealt easily created tension at the back. It was only for Ciro Immobile that Lazio survived a major upset. Separating the moments of brilliance in the last 20 minutes, the midfield looked burnable. They are still missing the service of Lucas Biglia who turned up for the black and red of Ac Milan. It will take long indeed for the club to find a perfect replacement for the Argentinian.

The only thing that is keeping the smile on Inzaghi’s face is their attacking standard. The forward line led by Ciro Immobile structured their progress in the last few games. The Italian’s creativity and leadership is of vital necessity for the club.

Genoa are placed bottom in the Serie A table to their disarray and early sign of relegation are crossing their minds. No points in the bag after three matches, the desperation is crossing its limit. That had left manager Ivan Juric’s job in a do or die situation. However, Genoa must be quite impressed with their record when Lazio came to the town. The home side are unbeaten in the last 7 games in this fixture. But this time it is likely that Lazio will put that record into sleep.
