AC Milan may have racked up a big European win, but they must still be reeling from their loss to Lazio in the league. Their trip to Rome was the first real test for this expensively assembled side, and they came up short. The Rossoneri lost 4-1 to the side who finished a place above them the last term. That’s hardly the sort of result to kick off a title challenge. We expect better from them this weekend, as they host Udinese.
It was exactly the reaction that Vincenzo Montella wanted to see from his side and Andre Silva made a bit of history by becoming the first player since Kaka to score a hat-trick for Milan in European competition.
Milan are viewed as some to go far in the Europa League, and having spent big this summer, they should be viewed as such. Of course, with Italy getting four spots for the Champions League, their goal is to finish at least in the top four as well, and whilst the loss to Lazio was a minor wobble, the season is still quite young. That represented the first true challenge for the team and the fact that they were able to shake it off and do well in their Europa League match is certainly encouraging.
The Zebrette have struggled to put some points on the board and finally ended their losing streak by earning their first win over Genoa last weekend. Last season, Udinese completed a double over Milan, which marked the first time they’ve achieved this, but the overwhelming feeling is that they will struggle to replicate this feat this time around.
