The first point loss of this season for East Bengal had finally happened when they had drawn against Mohammedan Sporting in a thrilling contest today at Kalyani Stadium.

The match was also being followed by the players and millions of supporters of Mohun Bagan too as the result of this match was very much vital in the scenario of the league table. With this draw East Bengal levelled the points with their arch rival Mohun Bagan. They both are now on 19 points in their 7 outings so far but East Bengal will be on the top of the table in terms of goal difference.

The match was exciting through out the whole 90 minutes. At the first minute of the match Rafique’s free kick was headed down to Al Amna by East Bengal captain Arnab Mondal and Al Amna’s decent strike had given East Bengal the very early lead in the match. But Mohammedan Sporting came back strongly as the former player of East Bengal ,Jiten Murmu had equalised for them in the 19th minute of the match following a brilliant pass of Ogba Kalu. East Bengal were unlucky enough in the match as the shots from Laldanmaiwa and Mohammed Rafique struck the post and came back from there. The first half had ended with a scoreline of 1-1.

Both the coaches Khalid Jamil and Biswajit Bhattacharya had sorted out their strategies in the dressing room at the half time of the match. Players were eager to prove themselves in the field but East Bengal’s bad luck were continuing as in the second half a brilliant strike of Willis Plaza had come back from the post. In the 58th minute of the match Gabriel was called in the field in place of Justin by Khalid Jamil. East Bengal defense was looking a bit shaky in this time. Mitchell had saved East Bengal one time. At the 66th minute of the match the star forward of Mohammedan Sporting, Dipanda Dicka had given them the lead in the first time of the match by following a good pass from Jiten Murmu. After conceding the goal, Surabuddin Mullick took place of Laldanmaiwa in the midfield for the Red and Gold Bridage. They were desperate to make a comeback in the match but the lack of finishing in the attacking third was not helping them in this case. Cavin Lobo came in for Brandon at the 81st minute of the match and he had been proved the super sub for East Bengal as from his brilliant through ball Willis Plaza had equalised the scoreline with a decent strike at 86th minute of the match. The contest had ended with a scoreline of 2-2 but East Bengal deserved the win, the way they played through out the match but the luck was not in their favour today. Mohammedan Sporting were out of the context of winning the league previously but they played for their pride and they would be happy with the result.

So,as things stand East Bengal and Mohun Bagan both have two matches left in the Kolkata Premier League and if they win their next match against their respective opponents, the winner of the league will be decided with the result of The Derby on 24th September at Kanchanjhungha Stadium, Siliguri.
