AS Monaco vs RC Strasbourg Alsace: Match Preview
Reigning champions against a newly promoted team, this weekend would appear to be a complete mismatch, but have last weekend’s results cast a seed of doubt into this fixture?
Time: 5pm (local), 4pm (BST)
Venue: Stade Louis II
After Monaco’s commanding start to the season, last week’s heavy, shock 4-0 defeat to a poor OGC Nice side was a huge wake up call for the champions. Despite the unexpected loss in last weekend’s fixtures, Monaco will still go into this match as heavy favourites.
Their short odds will thanks, in a large part, to their formidable attacking threat, lead primarily by Colombian Radamel Falcao who has scored seven goals so far in five games this season. Monaco will look to right the ship as soon as possible and get back to winning ways, this match seems at first glance to provide them a good opportunity to do that.
RC Strasbourg Alsace
As Strasbourg head into this match they will take some solace in the effectiveness of Nice’s counter-attacking strategy last weekend, and attempt to mould that experience into their own game on Saturday.
Despite being a promoted side tipped to go down, Strasbourg have made a bright start to life in the top flight, recording four points already from five matches. Ultimately though, a lot of luck will need to go their way this weekend for them to get anything from this match.
