The Argentine has been getting run in the team this season; he came off the bench during Atleti’s season opener against Girona and even netted a goal. Correa then went on to start the next two matches against Las Palmas and Valencia, due to Antoine Griezmann being suspended.

The 22 year old has been targeted by Premier League clubs Liverpool and Newcastle over a possible transfer, two clubs where he was reportedly offered a regular starting place.

In a recent interview with El Pais, Correa stated that it is up to the coach weather to regularly feature him in the starting line up or not. He stated that he is always training, to keep himself available to play for 90 minutes of action in the pitch.

“I thought about [leaving] many times. It is difficult, I feel like I want to play always and I prepare myself for that.”- Correa stated.

The former San Lorenzo player claimed that it is difficult to play short term matches but now that he is getting a chance to play regularly under Simeone, he promises to take full advantage of it.
