Atletico Madrid striker Angel Correa thought of leaving the club many times.
Atletico Madrid striker Angel Correa has admitted that he thought of leaving the club on numerous occasions, due to him not getting regular starts under Diego Simeone but decided to stay at the club and instead fight for his place under Simeone.
Correa, who joined Atleti back three years back from San Lorenzo and for a transfer fee of 6.75 million. Correa has scored a total of 18 goals in 87 matches for the team since joining back in December of 2014.
The Argentine has been getting run in the team this season; he came off the bench during Atleti’s season opener against Girona and even netted a goal. Correa then went on to start the next two matches against Las Palmas and Valencia, due to Antoine Griezmann being suspended.
The 22 year old has been targeted by Premier League clubs Liverpool and Newcastle over a possible transfer, two clubs where he was reportedly offered a regular starting place.
In a recent interview with El Pais, Correa stated that it is up to the coach weather to regularly feature him in the starting line up or not. He stated that he is always training, to keep himself available to play for 90 minutes of action in the pitch.
“I thought about [leaving] many times. It is difficult, I feel like I want to play always and I prepare myself for that.”- Correa stated.
The former San Lorenzo player claimed that it is difficult to play short term matches but now that he is getting a chance to play regularly under Simeone, he promises to take full advantage of it.
