French keeper admits that he almost joined Arsenal FC

French goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso admits he agreed to join Premier League club Arsenal FC during the last transfer window.

Carrasso, whose FC Bordeaux contract expired on 8th September was on search and was looking for a new club. According to French outlet L’Equipe the player agreed to play under Arsen Wenger at Arsenal FC but apparently the move to Arsenal could not be completed due to some problems which led his agents in preventing the move from happening.

The player admitted that he was supposed to join The Gunners’ squad as their third choice keeper as manager Arsene Wenger wanted to work with three goalkeepers.

“3rd choice to do nothing that is not being part of a squad that is not interesting.”- Carrasso stated.

But then again, the French keeper claimed that it was real hard to turn down a club like Arsenal FC, despite knowing that he would have to fight real hard to get a chance in the team’s squad, where he would have played third fiddle behind Petr Cech and David Ospina.

Carrasso has now signed for Turkish giants Galatasaray, so now Arsenal would have to look into their youth team for a third choice keeper, with Matt Macey the likeliest to make it into Wenger’s team but there is no doubt that the French manager would have loved to work with someone more experienced like Carrasso.

The speculation of signing a new goalkeeper might still continue, with Carrassso’s move failing in the last minute Wenger might try and sign a new keeper when the transfer window reopens.
