Simeone and Marcelinho’s men play out an insipid draw at Mestalla

Both sides came into today’s clash off the back of a solid start to the season that has brought a win and a draw from their opening two games.

Altough Atletico have dominated the decent head to head record having come on top in each of the last four meetings and if Atletico would have been able to manage a win through without conceding it would have been Valencia’s worse five in a row goalless run against Atletico.
Valencia had a busy transfer market and Marcelinho made three changes to the side that faced the other half of Madrid in the previous meeting.

Ezequiel Garay returned in to the heart of the defence after overcoming an injury while new signings Gabriel Paulista played his debut and United loanee Andres Perriera made his first appearance for the los che.

Meanwhile,Diego simeone had also made three alterations in the line-up that started the match against Las Palmas two weeks ago.

All the changes were of the back-line as first choice full-backs Juanfran and Filipe Luis joined Luis Hernandez to replace Diego Godin, Jose Gimenez and the suspended Antoine Griezmann.

The hosts launched their first meaningful attack of the game in the 15th minute with a swift one-touch passing and a shot by Pereira, which was well saved by Jan Oblak.

The visitors were gifted a huge chance in the 32nd minute when Correa and Partey capitalised on a poor pass by Kondogbia which was fired over just inside the area by Vietto.

It was a huge let-off for Valencia as a goal seemed certain.

It stayed as it started as the players entered into the second half and the hosts spondered another pivotal chance in the 58th minute when Gabriel was unable to keep his header down from the ball provided Parejo’s free-kick.

Atletico tried asking questions by offensive changes such as replacing Carrasco with Gaitan and Vietto making way for Fernando Torres.Meanwhile ,another debutant Goncalo Guedes came in place of Pereira for the Los Che.

The visitors pushed forward late into the match when Juanfran delivered a dangerous ball into the box which was headed away by Gabriel and a point each seemed to look as the outcome of the match and it stayed that way which was the best result by all means of fairness.

Atletico have a crucial and tricky UEFA Champions League tie against AS Roma away and this point should be helpful in solidifying their morale.
