Serie A: Juventus vs Chievo Verona Match Preview
The international break has finally ended, meaning that Serie A action resumes, and Juventus will welcome Chievo to kick off matchday 3 tonight.
Juventus vs Chievo
2017/18 Italian Serie A
Date: Saturday, 9 September 2017
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK, 21:30 IST
Venue: Allianz Stadium (Turin).
The Bianconeri took on Genoa last round and nearly suffered the same shocking result from last year as they conceded two early goals, but managed to fightback from 2-0 down to earn a victory. Again, they appeared very shaky at the Grifone’s home ground, but Paulo Dybala saved the day and Massimiliano Allegri will be very concerned by the defensive lapses from his side, as it’s not always that Juventus will be able to overpower an opponent with their superior attack if they concede so early on in a match.
That being said, they did spend some cash this summer to add more options to solidify their side both in attack and in defense and will be expected to pick up all three points in this fixture. Chievo come into this game having lost to Lazio 2-1 and whilst they did surprise Udinese by winning 2-1 on matchday one, they are not expected to win in Turin on Saturday. For starters, they have won just one out of their last 28 meetings with Juventus and have never won in Turin.
Furthermore, Chievo have scored just twice in their last six meetings with Juventus. An upset looks highly unlikely and Juventus are expected to keep a clean sheet, especially since Chievo failed to score against three out of the top four sides on the road last season. In addition, the Bianconeri have scored at least twice in eight out of their last ten meetings with Chievo and should be able to grab a similar score-line in Saturday’s meeting.
Juventus: Szczesny; Lichtsteiner, Howedes, Rugani, Sandro, Pjanic, Matuidi; Costa, Dybala, Mandzukic; Higuain.
Chievo Verona: Sorrentino; Cacciatore, Gamberini, Dainelli, Gobbi; Castro, Radovanovic, Hetemaj; Inglese, Pucciarelli.
- Juventus have lost just one out of their last 28 meetings with Chievo (20 wins, 7 draws).
- The Flying Donkeys’ sole win to date was a 1-0 result on January 17, 2010.
- Chievo have never beaten Juventus in Turin, ten losses and four draws from 10 games.
- The Bianconeri have won 35 out of their last 36 home games.
- La Vecchia Signora have won nine out of their last ten home fixtures against Chievo across all competitions.
