Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany set to miss Saturday’s mega clash.
Just three matches into the season and Manchester City captain, Vincent Kompany is sidelined due to another calf injury.
The club currently stands at fourth place in the league table with 7 points on board and Pep Guardiola will consider this as a very average start to the season for his team and the situation now has gone from bad to worse, as the City boss finds his captain out of action in Saturday’s mega clash against Liverpool FC.
Despite all the firepower in the team’s attack, Kompany stands out as City’s most important player in the backline of the defense. With his presence the team has lost only 10% of the matches last season, without him in the team City have lost 18% of their matches.
Yet once again City boss, Pep Guardiola will be selecting his team against Liverpool without Vincent Kompany being available. This will the fourth time, Kompany has missed a match against Liverpool in the last five meetings.
Kompany was busy during the International break, with his country of Belgium who defeated Gibraltar 9-0. According, to Guardiola, the defender picked up the calf injury during the match against Gibraltar, who stated this on Friday at a press conference.
“I do not think he will be available [on Saturday]. I am sad. The last seven, eight, nine games last season, he played no problem. In preseason, we took care of him and he played all three games. Now, unfortunately, we’ve lost him, but we will try and get him fit as soon as possible.”- Guardiola stated.
Kompany represented Belgium during their demolition win over Gibraltar, but missed their last match against Greece.
City now have to switch to a backline duo of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, who have performed really weak when they have been paired with each other, instead of being paired with Kompany.
