Former FC Barcelona player signs for Perth Glory
Perth Glory have signed Spaniard Xavi Torres for the upcoming A-League season.
The Spanish midfielder was the third Spaniard to join Perth Glory, after the club signed Diego Castro from Getafe in 2015 and former FC Barcelona youth player, Andreu Guerao who was bought in during this transfer window as well.
Torres, who played for Sporting Gijon last season, also had previously played for Malaga, Levante, Getafe, Real Betis and also had a stint with FC Barcelona.
The former Barcelona man has signed a one year deal with Perth Glory but is yet to complete his pending medical and waiting on his visa clearance.
During his time at Barcelona, he played under Pep Guardiola and featured regularly in the team, since making his debut in 2009 for the Catalan Giants.
After leaving the Nou Camp, he was sold to Malaga who then loaned him out to Levante for whom he played for a total of 60 matches, scoring five goals.
The former Villareal youth product then signed for Getafe but left for Real Betis after one season. He represented Betis in the Europa League and helped them to win the Second Division league title.
The Spaniard has flown to Perth with his partner and will finalize his contract by signing it once he passes the medical.
Torres seems to be really excited to be playing for the Aussie based club.
He stated that: “I have heard good things about the club and the league from Diego and Kenny Lowe and now I want to win things with Perth Glory.”
