Another new season of the Spanish Primeira began on Saturday (19 aug) after declaring Real Madrid the champions in May. Champions Real Madrid won their 2nd title in four years, toppling the two year reign of their rival FC Barcelona, to reach the topmost height in Spain. And after two months of waiting, La Liga is back.

Real began their defence for the title with a trip to La Coruna to face Deportivo. A comfortable 3-0 win ensured the start of another remarkable campaign, after clincing back to back Champions league and Super Cup title. Gareth Bale was the lead performer as he provided an assist and scored a goal to make a statement that he deserves starting place. More goals from Toni Kroos and Casemiro put icing on the cake. Cristiano Ronaldo was absent for his 5-match transfer ban after seeing red card in the Supercopa Espana against Barcelona. His team mate, Sergio Ramos was send-off ,for the 18th time in his career, in the game to his utter frustration.

The introduction of Ernesto Valverde was to bring back those days of glory. Things took a turn as Neymar departed for Psg after the french club paid his buyout clause of 222 million. It was even more unpleasant as the atmosphere turn fragile for FC Barcelona after their 5-1 aggregate loss to rivals Real Madrid in the Supercopa Espana. He came as the successor of Luis Enrique with lot of expectations to present the Camp Nou with trophies. His early work at the club seemed disarray but he managed to take a win over Real Betis on the opening day of the season by 2-0 scoreline. The first goal was an own goal from Tousca while the second came from Sergio Roberto to a sign of relief. Fans hope this is a recovery period of this situation.

Diego Simeone’s side Atletico finished third for the last three seasons. And now he wants to change that statistic. However, the quest didn’t started well as they were held by a 2-2 draw with promoted club Girona. They had to pull up a comeback after Stuani’s brace in the first half run riot.

Angel Correa delivered the much needed goal in 78th minute after numerous failed attempt to score a goal. Simeone took a sign of relief when Gimenez slotted home to finish the comeback in the 85th minute.

Celta Vigo’s start their new campaign with a loss to Real Sociedad by 2-3 goals. Things were looking easy after Gomez put the home side in front with a powerful header. Sociedad equilised minutes before half-time to make it 1-1. Gimenez again scored only to be frustrated by late goals from Juanmi and William Jose which made up the day for Sociedad.

Sevilla earned a point after drawing with Espanyol 1-1. Lenglet gave the Seville side the lead in 26th minute. Baptistao equalised for Espanyol in the 35th minute.
Athletic club and Getafe produce no goals as the only fixture to not to score goals on the opening day.

Elswhere, Simeone Zaza scored the only goal to give valencia the win over Las Palmas. Gabriel 24th minute hit gave his side, Leganes all three points defeating Alaves 1-0. Villareal fall to a 1-0 defeat to new comers Levante and Eibar beat Malaga with the same scoreline.
