Sergi Roberto clarifies his stand on any potential move from Barça
Sergi Roberto has played down talk that he is set for a move away from Camp Nou.
Sergi Roberto closed the door on a move away from Barcelona after scoring in his side’s season-opening 2-0 win against Real Betis.
Alina Tosca’s own goal opened the scoring in the first half at Camp Nou, before Roberto added the second following good work from Gerard Deulofeu.
The Manchester United target had a totemic presence during Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Real Betis. When provided with the space, the Spaniard was lethal and showed his intelligence with solid passing and movement to help seal three points for Ernesto Valverde’s men.
According to reports in England, Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to trigger the buy-out clause of Roberto this summer but the midfielder made it clear on Sunday that his future remains committed with Barcelona.
Roberto said: “I’m happy. I was happy on a personal level and I felt comfortable today, too. I played in my favored midfield position.”
“I started at the Bernabeu and the coach has given me confidence. I’ve scored today and I want to be important. I want to continue here and continue like this.”
The future of versatile Sergi Roberto is in considerable doubt as Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Juventus all reportedly keen to pay the 25-year-old’s buyout clause.
