Girona: A real buzz is expected in and around Estadio Municipal de Montilivi where Girona will play their first ever match in the elite class of the Spanish football. The hosts will come into the game in high spirits after beating Manchester City in their last pre-season play on Tuesday evening (1-0) on the home patch. The team led by Pablo Machin will be the main candidates for the instant drop to Segunda Division in spite of signing former Middlesbrough man Christian Stuani to join Kayode and Moreno up front. Machin can be thrilled with his team’s defensive displays in last two friendlies as Girona kept clean sheets against both Reus Deportiu and Man City.
Atlético de Madrid: Atlético de Madrid had a dismal start to previous year’s La Liga. Atletico began the season looking rattled after their traumatic defeat in the Champions League final at the hands of their Madrid neighbours. Simeone’s defensive system, usually Atletico’s biggest strength, appeared rusty and soft. Their biggest signing of the summer, French forward Kevin Gameiro, struggled to fit into the physical demands that playing up front for Atletico involves. A very poor run of results in La Liga in November – one victory, one draw and three defeats in five matches, during which the team scored three goals and conceded eight – set off all the alarms. Though, Atlético’s Champions League campaign was still alive, their poor performance in the domestic competition could have compromised their participation in the biggest European tournament for the following season, with catastrophic financial consequences for the club. In the sixth position at that time, that risk was real. From that point onwards, and thanks to a few tactical and personnel decisions made by Simeone, the team recovered their swagger. They managed to finish 3rd in the Spanish elite division and also made it to the semi-finals of Champions League – where they were knocked out by eventual champions Real Madrid. Simeone’s men picked up silverware during pre-season after winning the Audi Cup thanks to victory over Napoli and a draw against Liverpool. Following the Audi Cup, Atletico could only manage a disappointing draw against Getafe but they did claim wins over Brighton and Leganes. Atleti’s only incoming over the summer was the signing of Vitolo from Sevilla, but he will play on loan with Las Palmas until January due to the ban on registering new players. The ban has made it difficult for Simeone to close the gap on the top two in recent years but the end is in sight and the ban is set to be lifted in January.

Team News :-
Girona: Girona will be without Eloi Amagat and Juampe Ramirez who are expected to miss matchday one. New signing Christian Stuani may be the most recognizable name to most, and he will lead the line against Atletico.
Atlético de Madrid: Filipe Luis is a doubt but could well make the starting lineup, although the same can’t be said for Kevin Gameiro who will miss out. The experienced Fernando Torres and the unstoppable Antoine Griezmann will lead the attacking line, and they will be supported by wingers Carrasco and Gaitan.
Likely Line-ups :-
Girona ( 5-4-1 ) : Iraizoz, Maffeo, Bernardo, Alcala, Muniesa, Aday, Portu, Douglas Luiz, Pere Pons, Borja Garcia, Stuani.
Atlético de Madrid ( 4-4-2 ) : Oblak, Juanfran, Savic, Gimenez, Luis, Gaitan, Gabi, Koke, Carrasco, Griezmann, Torres.
