Jamshedpur FC confirmed the winger’s signing on their official Twitter handle, after the tweeted out “Haitian international striker Kervens Belfort will join the #JamshedpurFC family!” earlier today.
The signing of Belfort means that Jamshedpur has added a lot of firepower in their frontline, as the Haitian international will prove to come in handy for the club in their first season of the ISL.
It has been reported that the player has signed a one year contract with the team and will catch up with his new teammates before the start of Jamshedpur’s pre-season tour which is set to commence in Spain and Thailand from October, a month before the fourth season of the ISL kicks off.
Belfort has represented Kerela Blasters last season and made 15 appearances for the team, including an appearance in the final as well. Since then, the player has played in Sweden and Azerbaijan representing Syrianska FC and FK Zira respectively.
Belfort is Jamshedpur’s fifth international signing in this transfer window, after the team managed to pick up Spanish defender Tiri, Brazilian midfielder Memo, Sameegh Doutie who formerly represented Atletico de Kolkata and French defender Cedric Hengbart.
One of the main reasons why Belfort decided to join Jamshedpur is because of his relationship with head coach Steve Coppell, with whom he worked last season. Coppell’s assistant coach at Jamshedpur, Ishfaq Ahmed is also very familiar with the player having played alongside him last season at Kerela Blasters.
Belfort, who is also capable of playing at the wing will operate the left side with Doutie operating from the right wing, Coppell’s team are already looking like a big threat and are also expected to make new signings as the Tata Steel based company will be looking to have high hopes from their first season.
