Paulinho becomes Barcelona’s first signing with the £198million made from Neymar move to PSG
Barcelona sign Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande for £36.5m as former Tottenham man heads to the Nou Camp.
The Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande have reportedly accepted an offer that exceeds £36.5, which match the player’s release clause. The 29-year-old spent two seasons at White Hart Lane, making 67 appearances and scoring 10 goals, before being offloaded to Guangzhou Evergrande in 2015.While the Brazilian failed to make too much of an impression in north London, he has enjoyed something of a renaissance since joining the Chinese Super League outfit managed by his former national coach Luis Felipe Scolari.

The Spanish giants are reported to have reopened talks with Guangzhou Evergrande in the wake of losing Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain. The forward’s departure for the French side means Barca now have £200m to spend and they are ready to part with some of that to get Paulinho. He hit headlines in March after scoring a hat-trick in his national side’s 4-1 win over Uruguay. Barca opened with an offer of £17 million in July but have since significantly increased their offer for the 29-year-old to complete the deal.
Paulinho’s arrival comes at a time when Barcelona are rebuilding following Neymar’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain, with Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho their primary target to replace the Brazilian forward. A switch back to the Europe’s elite flight will, however, be a gruelling task for the 29-year-old.
