Danny Welbeck had brought Arsenal level at 2-2 but not for long as Jamie Vardy regained the lead for Leicester City at the 56 minute mark. The Gunners were once more saved as substitute Aaron Ramsey poked home eight minutes from time. Then Giroud, so often Arsenal’s super sub last season, saved Wenger’s blushes again with a brilliant header moments later. Ozil returned from an ankle injury to supplement the Arsenal attack, it was the back line that caused the most eyebrows to be raised ahead of kick-off.

The Gunners boss introduced Aaron Ramsey and Giroud after 67 minutes – within 20 minutes Ramsey grabbed an all-important equaliser, then, just two minutes later, the hero Giroud headed off the underside of the crossbar just over the line for the win.
