Tug of war over the transfer of Riyad Mahrez
Inter join Arsenal and AS Roma in Mahrez race but Leicester makes it clear that they will not sell Riyad Mahrez on the cheap to either team.
The 26-year-old, who is reportedly valued at £50 million, asked for a transfer at the end of last season, and with the window closing at the end of the month time is running out for him to secure a move. The Serie A club have had an offer of €35 million (£31.7m) rejected and Leicester are reportedly holding out for a figure around £50m. Reports suggest that Inter have emerged as the latest competitors for the signing of Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez.
The Algeria International wants to leave the Foxes this summer and has already made it clear that he wants to open talks with AS Roma to discuss a possible move to the Olimpico.Arsenal could also make an attempt to sign Mahrez if Alexis Sanchez leaves North London in the current summer transfer window.
Meanwhile his teammate Wes Morgan says that the Algeria international has handled the ordeal professionally ahead of Leicester’s Premier League opener at Arsenal on Friday.
“He is a still a Leicester player and that’s all that matters. We can’t think about what could happen or where he might go.”
“At the training ground we all train together and I have to say is his attitude has been great. He hasn’t shown that he is angry or that he is upset in any way or that his head is not in it. He comes in and he trains hard.”
“We expect players to come and players to go. [N’Golo] Kante went [to Chelsea] and there were no hard feelings there. We’d all love Riyad to stay, but who knows what will happen.” Morgan said.
Meanwhile, Leicester’s hopes of signing West Brom defender Jonny Evans have been dealt a blow, after he said he is happy at the Hawthorns.
