The Catalan club is ready to snap up defender Inigo Martinez from La Real.

Real Sociedad has confirmed that Barcelona have shown interest in the Spain international and is also set to meet the defender’s €32m buyout clause.

Barcelona are in a healthy position financially after the big money move of Neymar to Paris. So the Catalan giants are set to bring in some players before the transfer window ends.

Real Sociedad Sporting director Loren Juarros told reporters on Friday:

“It’s true Barca have spoken with us.They’ve been in contact to show their interest in the player. But so far there is no offer on the table. That’s all we can say.
La Real have no intention of facilitating Inigo’s exit to any club. He is irreplaceable. We do not want to sell him.”

Inigo Martinez is one of the most important players in the La Real team and his presence in the heart of the defence makes the defensive line stable.

Martinez progressed through the ranks at Real Sociedad before breaking into the first-team setup in 2011. Over the last six years, the player has been one of the most consistent defenders in La Liga and has played a key role in La Real’s fortunes.

He has made over 200 appearances for Sociedad and is among the higher ranked defenders in Spain. But the 26-year old has been linked several times but he denied a move away from Anoeta.
But this summer the time has finally come for him to leave La real and it is reported that he is set to sign a 5-year contract with Barcelona.

Valverde had been scouring defenders as he acknowledges that to be an area of concern. So with the arrival of Inigo Martinez, Barcelona can send youngster Marlon Santos on loan, while Tomas Vermaelen is set to leave Camp Nou this summer.

So Martinez’s ability to build up play from the back will suit the club’s style of play, and it will also provide an extra option for Valverde as Pique and Mascherano are regularly bothered by fitness issues.
So only the official confirmation between the two clubs remain before the 26-year old Spain international finally heads to Camp Nou.
