Former Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber who played for Schalke in the second half of the season join last season 2.Bundesliga winners Stuttgart on a free transfer.

The Former German International suffered a lot of injuries in the previous years due to which he lost his first team opportunities under Carlo Ancelotti. Due to this, FC Bayern decided to loan him to Schalke in January after having only 3 appearances for Bayern in all competitions last season. Furthermore, FC Bayern announced in May that he would be allowed to leave the club on a free transfer as his contract ended at the end of the season and also the defender had a desire to develop himself into a different nation with the interests of clubs like Sevilla and Sporting Lisbon.

He made his debut for Schalke against his former club FC Bayern which ended 1:1. At Schalke, he suffered from cold due to which he missed only one match and had 10 appearances for the club. On the first of March, he made his return at the Allianz Arena to face his former club again for the second time which didn’t go well as he was sent off in the 77th minute and Schalke lost 3:0 in DFB Pokal quarter finals.
