Southern Samity to participate in CFL after pressures from Minister
Southern Samity finally set to participate in the CFL despite facing numerous problems.
It was almost 3 weeks ago when LNTUP first reported that CFL Premier Division outfit Southern Samity may withdraw their name from this year’s CFL. Just one week after that, the officials made it clear that the club which competed for promotion to India’s top flight not so long ago would not be a part of this season’s CFL for certain reasons.
The reason behind their withdrawal was some financial and administrative woes. Some of the leading officials were also found responsible for the sudden financial fall of the club which resulted in inability in buying players and ultimately took the form of withdrawal from the CFL.
But it says, things do not take much time to change totally in Kolkata football. Under a completely reversed scenario, it seems that Southern will be taking part in this year’s CFL according to our sources.
But this change in the decision did not come spontaneously, rather it is considered to be pretty much the result of the pressure given by Arup Biswas, the Sports Minister of the state of West Bengal. Mr Biswas had a meeting with the officials of Southern on Monday at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata where he urged them to field their team in the CFL.
The minister told the officials to start building the team within 48 hours. And as the situation currently stands, Southern Samity will be participating in CFL 2017. Hemanta Dora will remain at the hot seat of the coach.
The CFL Premier Division will start from 7th August but IFA has yet not published the schedule. After Southern’s green signal, the fixtures may also soon get published.
