Alexis Sanchez returns with a smile in London amid transfer rumours
Alexis Sanchez has returned to London with his future at Arsenal still uncertain with a month of the transfer window remaining.
Alexis Sanchez took to Instagram to confirm that he has touched down in London, but the Chilean star is still eyeing a move away from the club. It is also speculated that he’s a set to submit an official transfer request to Arsenal.
The former Barcelona star has been on the radar of many “biggies” of Europe, most notably being on the radar of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich this summer as he stalls on signing a new contract, with just a year to run on his current deal. On the other hand, Arsene Wenger still remains confident of keeping his star man with him for the upcoming season.
The 28-year-old was expected back in training on Sunday before succumbing flu. Sanchez took to Instagram last week to inform the Gunners that he was ‘sick’, which was later confirmed as true by Wenger.
Sanchez, who has been linked with a big-money move to both Manchester City and PSG, flew from Chile via Paris with his lawyer and headed to the club’s London Colney training ground in the afternoon. His brief stop-off in France has led to some fans questioning whether PSG is his next destination, while Manchester City supporters are still hopeful he will arrive at the Etihad.
Manchester City are the leading contenders to land Sanchez’s signature after PSG and Bayern Munich dropped out of the race – with the former more busy in convincing Neymar to put pen on paper.
However Wenger has insisted throughout the summer that Arsenal will not sell last season’s top scorer, even if it means losing him on a free in less than 12 months time.
As every Arsenal player has on their return from summer breaks, Sanchez began with one-on-one drills. Standard Sport understands the forward will remain away from the first-team squad over the coming days as his fitness is assessed.
