I-League champions Aizawl FC announce their new coach
I-League champions Aizawl FC has been forced to undergo a serious remodelling this season. After raids from Kolkata giants East Bengal and several other ISL and I-League outfits, the squad of the Mizo side will take almost a new look this season.
One of the major topics of discussion was who the new coach of Aizawl would be after the departure of Khalid Jamil. After a long search and speculation, Aizawl FC has announced an hour ago the signing of Portuguese Coach Paul Jorge Coelho Menezes for the upcoming 2017-2018 season.
The 39 year old coach got numerous experiences in different places like – Panama, Laos, Spain and various clubs in his homeland ‘Portugal’ . He also had worked for ‘Planning and Analysis’ in the Spain National Team.
Starting out his football career as a player in 1996, Paul played for various clubs in the Portuguese 3rd & 2nd Division league.
The Portuguese Coach is a UEFA Pro License (Spanish Level 3 coaching license) holder plus, an University degree holder of ‘ Sports Science Training Methodology, Football High Performance and Physical Education.
The newly recruited coach can speak 5 different languages – English, Spanish, Italian, French and of course his mother tongue Portuguese.
The Portuguese will replace influential Khalid Jamil in the hotseat of Aizawl. Defence of the I-League crown will really be a tough nut to crack but before that, Paul will have to fight it out in the Mizoram Premier League. Aizawl will also represent the nation in ACL qualifiers(if AfC club licensing criteria are met) as the first club from the North-East in history.
