The Indian Super League draft is all done and dusted. By the completion of the last round of the event a total of 134 players were snapped up by different teams but to utter misfortune of some, 71 players failed to get a place into any of the franchise’s plans.

The I-League clubs pounced soon after the Indian Super League franchises made their picks, with Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan showing commendable alacrity to rope in seven footballers within 24 hours – including five players in a single evening – after they went unsold in the Indian Super League (ISL) season 4 drafts held in Mumbai on Sunday.

Yesterday, Mohun Bagan managed to secure the services of former Chennaiyin FC defender Abhishek Das, Debabrata Roy, former Pune FC defender Gurjinder Singh, former Pailan Arrows captain Shilton D’Silva and former club captain Denson Devadas.

The Mariners continued their squad expansion task on Monday, as they roped in wingers Israil Gurung and Nikhil Kadam to bolster their squad.

Gurung, a right winger, has been out of action for quite some time due to falling out with FC Pune City officals. He headlined the Indian news portals when he decided to join a second division Portuguese club a couple of years back.

Kadam, a former Pune FC left winger, was one of the most talked about footballers in our country a couple of years back, but his career suffered a slump later on mainly due to a nagging knee injury.

With players like Pritam Kotal, Subhasis Bose, Balwant Singh ( to name among a few ) deciding to join the ISL bandwagon, the Green and Maroons have roped in Abhishek Das, Gurinder Singh, Debabrata Roy, Shilton D’Silva and Denson Devdas to fill up their voids.

Das, a diminutive right-back has pace to burn, was nicknamed ‘Cafu’ by former East Bengal coach Marcos Falopa for his similarity to the former Brazil captain. Das will fill the void left by Pritam Kotal.

With promising left-back Subhasish Bose leaving for pastures anew, the club chose to bring in former Pune FC defender Gurjinder Singh, who had also donned the national team jersey for a brief period half a decade back.

Former Pailan Arrows captain Shilton D’Silva, who had once scored a brace in the club’s memorable 5-4 victory against Mohun Bagan, is expected to wear the Green and Maroon colours while former club captain Denson Devadas will also return to the fold.
