Nadheem enterprises crowned as champions of Kavaratti football League

The 8th season of Kavaratti Football League has ended today with Nadheem Enterprises winning the league in the tie breakers. Nadheem beat Unemployees FC in the exciting finals of the tournament on penalties by a score of 4-1 to clinch their title, the full-time score was 0-0. With the victory, Nadheem ended UFC’s unbeaten run in the league.

Goalkeeper Salah(Nadheem) was brilliant today as he made two crucial penalty saves in the shootout, he was also the best player on the pitch. Usman Ashik of Nadheem ( Santhosh trophy player) was chosen as the best player of the league. Meanwhile, Hashim of Nadheem was the top scorer of the league with 8 goals in all competition. Other notable honours are as follows,

Best goalkeeper – Siya Mubarak ( VCC)

Best defender – Jaffar Sadik (Ridham)

Best Midfielder- Nasarulla ( UFC)

Promising player – Rayib ( LSC)

Fair play – Luckydives sporting Club

This season’s league saw a good crowd turnout and shows signs of football gaining its popularity in the Union territory of the country. 20 Santhosh trophy players turned out for different sides in the league, of this 18 players are Lakshadweep natives. Players for Santhosh trophy will be scouted from this league.A maximum of four players from outside can be fielded in the starting eleven, rest has to be from Kavaratti itself.

The tournament format is similar to that of Indian Premier League (IPL) with 7 teams competing in the league with no promotion or relegation. The first and second placed team will face each other in the first play off and winners will march on to the finals. The losers of the match will face winners from the second playoff ( played between third and fourth placed teams) and the winners of this match will play the finals.
