AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers : India 0:2 Syria
India’s chances to qualify for 2018 AFC U-23 Championship looks slim, as they suffered their first defeat in the opening match of group C against Syria. Two goals in the second half sealed the victory for Syrian side.Strikes from Srour and Arnout helped the Syrian side to grab the valuable 3 points.
Stephen Constantine’s men put in a brave performance but were unable to stop the Syrian side. The Syrian side were the better side in both halves, the Blues managed to keep the score level in the first half but couldn’t stop them from scoring in the second half.
Goalkeeper Vishal Kaith made some good saves in the game, while India’s best chance was in the first half when Daniel rattled the crossbar. Had the ball went in, the scoreline would have been different.

Syria now sits on top of Group C with 3 points and will face Turkmenistan in their second match of the group. India will lock horns with hosts Qatar on 21st July 2017 in their second group stage match. Anything less than a victory will severely affect India’s chances of qualification for 2018 AFC U23 Championship.
