I-League champions get knocked out of Lalbiakliana Super Cup in Mizoram

The Lalbiakliana Super Cup is slowly reaching its business end, and with the passage of every day, the intensity of the competition both on and off the field is seemingly increasing. The most cash-rich knockout football tournament in Mizoram football history witnessed a major upset today amidst some other highly important games.

I-League champions Aizawl FC were beaten today by newly promoted Mizoram Premier League side Mizoram Police FC in the round of 16 of the Lalbiakliana Memorial Mizoram Football Association Super Cup 2017.

A thrilling encounter saw Aizawl FC take a 2 goal lead minutes from the start of the second half through strikes from H. Lalbiakthanga and Rochharzela.

Mizoram Police FC responded with three goal in tha space of 10 minutes as Lalsangbera, Lalfakzuala and F. Lalrinpuia each found the net.

Lalsangbera scored his second and MPFC’s fourth in stoppage time and there was late drama as MPFC’s MC Lalthanzaua scored an own goal three minutes into stoppage time.

MPL sides Chanmari West FC and Dinthar FC also disposed of their opponents today to seal a place in the quarter-finals.

MPL side Ramhlun North FC were also knocked out in the round of 16 during the weekend as Aizawl FC Academy pulled an upset with a penalty shootout victory after a goalless draw.
