Former Assistant of Sir Alex Ferguson becomes the new Head Coach of Kerala Blasters
Kerala Blasters FC today have announced the name of their Head-Coach moments ago. And contrary to the ongoing rumours of a legendary English striker taking the charges, it’s Dutchman René Meulensteen who is the new boss of the ISL outfit from South India.
Meulensteen is a well renowned name in the world of coaching. The 53 year old Dutch has had an illustrious coaching career which includes working as the assistant of Sir Alex Ferguson in Manchester United from 2007 untill Alex left in 2013. He left Old Trafford as he denied to work under David Moyes. Meulensteen was also in charge of United’s youth team from 2001 to 2006. According to Sir Alex, René Meulensteen was one of the best footballing brains he ever worked with alongside Queiroz and Steve Mclaren.
Besides United he also played the managerial role at London outfit Fulham but failed to justify his merits. The Dutchman also coached Russian club Anzhi Makachakala in 2013 before joining Fulham.
Meulensteen is also not a newcomer in Asian football as he previously had stints at Al-Ittihad and Al-Sadd in the early part of this millennium. The 53 year old appeared in the dugout of Danish giants Brøndby as well.
René Meulensteen will replace United legend Steve Coppel in the hotseat of the Blasters who just joined new ISL franchise Jamshedpur FC as the Head-Coach today. Meulensteen last had stint with Israeli giants Maccabi Haifa.
