The Portugal international has joined the Catalan club for €30 million.

The Portuguese right back became a primary target for Barcelona when they were clear that they could not get Hector Bellerin, who was actually a graduate from La Masia academy.

Barca announced the agreement of the deal on Thursday and after their transfer chief flew to Lisbon to negotiate them down from their steep €50m valuation.

Reports suggest that the Catalunya club will pay €30m up front with €5m bonuses across a five-year contract.
Semedo was impressive for Benfica last season as he scored 2 goals and bagged 6 assists in all competitions for the Portuguese champions.
His excellent performances have attracted interest from all over Europe with clubs like Bayern, Manchester United and Manchester City desperate to get the signature of the 23-year old right back.

The signing becomes a great positive for Barca as their right side now looks set for the new season. Semedo, who might need time to adapt, will presumably be manager Ernesto Valverde’s first-choice right-back. Other options will include Roberto, who’s more likely to play in midfield this season, Vidal and Sergi Palencia. Vidal, too, will be an option to play further forward on the right, where Gerard Deulofeu and Lionel Messi can also be used.

The 23-year old right back becomes the 3rd signing for Ernesto Valverde in this summer transfer window following the return of Gerard Deulofeu and signing of young talented centre-back Marlon.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu stated this week that they hope to complete “two or three” deals before the window closes next month.

The last season La Liga runners up are also linked with Manchester United’s Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera and Brazilian midfielder Paulinho.
