Stampede at Football stadium in Malawi kills eight

In a shocking incident, Eight people including seven children were killed in a stampede happened in Malawi, ahead of a football match between Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers. The reports coming from Malawi suggests several more were injured in the incident.

The tragedy occurred when thousands of people rushed to grab their seats ahead of the friendly football match between top division sides at Lilongwe’s Bingu national stadium, Malawi.

Despite the incident, the match was held in full house as thousands of people flowed into the stands. Nyasa Big Bullets emerged victorious over 10 man Silver strikers, the full time score was 2-1.

The football match was organised as part of Malawi’s 53rd Independence Day celebrations.
