Former Real Madrid defender Pepe joins Besiktas on free transfer

Besiktas have confirmed the signing of former Real Madrid defender Pepe.

The Portugal International moves to Turkey after spending 10 years in Real Madrid and has over 300 appearances for the Los Blancos.

Pepe, 34, was a free agent after his contract expired and so he joined Besiktas to test his skills in the Turkish Super Lig with the reigning champions.
Pepe will add leadership to the side’s backline and his experience will be helpful in crucial matches for the club.

Besiktas President Fikret Orman said:

“We have added a very important player with a career and personality that we like.”

Pepe added:

“I had several offers from England, France and Italy but I chose Besiktas, because of the attention from the club and from the fans. I want to win more trophies Besiktas.”
“My goal is to continue to win trophies.
“I love my job. I love to give my all on the pitch.”

Pepe was very successful in his 10 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning 3 league titles and also 3 Champions League titles along with 2 Club World Cup medals.
Pepe has high aims with the Turkish champions as he wishes to win more silverware and increase his trophy collection with the Istanbul side.
