Keylor Navas determined to stay the no. 1 keeper at Bernabéu
In a recent interview with Spanish outlet Marca, Keylor Navas has expressed his resolution to retain the no. 1 spot for the La Liga and Champions League winners.
Real Madrid have been linked with David De Gea, Thibaut Courtois, and Gianluigi Donnarumma, with De Gea being a long-term target of the Los Blancos. But Navas said he is relaxed about the situation and is ready to battle out for the no. 1 goalkeeper spot with any potential new signing.
“I will fight to the death against whoever arrives,” the shot-stopper told Marca.
The Costa Rican international has done a fine job between the sticks since his arrival in 2014 and has gone on to win one La Liga, two Champions Leagues, one UEFA Super Cup and one Club World Cup.
The Costa Rican also conveyed his gratitude towards Zinedine Zidane in the interview. “I am very grateful to Zidane. He has given me a lot of confidence and there aren’t words to express my gratitude for what he has done.”
The Costa Rican is set to miss the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup hosted by the United States and will be busy in pre-season with Real Madrid. When asked about the possibility of retiring at the Spanish capital, the 30-year-old said that it would be difficult but would be a dream for him.
