AS Roma sign midfielder Maxime Gonalons

AS Roma have signed French midfielder Maxime Gonalons from Olympique Lyonnais on a four-year deal. The transfer is worth €5 million in fees.

Gonalons spent his entire career at Lyon, making his debut for the club during the 2009-10 season. Since then, he has made over 330 appearances for the club, making him the 8th player on the club’s list of all-time appearances. Gonalons also won the Trophée des Champions and the Coupe de France.

“After speaking with Monchi and the coach about their ambitions, I did not hesitate for a moment,” Gonalons said.

“For this reason there were no issues and everything was agreed very quickly.”

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, Gonalons can also playes as a centre-back.

“Maxime is a footballer of international stature,” Roma’s Sporting Director Monchi said. “In addition to his technical ability, we are delighted to add his experience and personality to our group.”
