French giants pen a new deal with Manchester United target
The Paris Saint-Germain defender has penned a new contract with PSG, which will keep him in the French capital until 2022, thus ending any speculation that he could leave the club.
Marquinhos, who joined PSG from Roma in 2013, has agreed to fresh terms in the French capital and is looking forward to chasing down more silverware with the Ligue 1 outfit.
The 23-year-old Brazil international, who has made 155 appearances across his four seasons at the club, helping them to three successes apiece in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France and four successive triumphs in the Coupe de la Ligue, was heavily linked with Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window.
According to reports in France, Manchester United put forward a €70m offer for the versatile defender but the Brazilian snubbed their offer to stay at PSG and help his club re-claim the Ligue 1 title.
Marquinhos told the club’s official website after putting pen to paper:
“I have always said I’m happy to play for Paris Saint-Germain, and this contract extension is further proof of my commitment to the club. I feel very good at this club and with this group of players whom I am with every day.”
“I have found here the perfect place to flourish and hope to win many more trophies. Over the last four years, I have been able to gauge the progress made at Paris Saint-Germain, which has notably enabled me to get into the national team.”
“I’m really looking forward to starting pre-season ahead of a new campaign with my team-mates and to give the best of myself so that our team continues to make our fans proud in the coming months.” Marquinhos added.
