Former Barca star set to make a return to La Liga
The 25-year-old Fiorentina winger, who came through the academy and youth set-up at FC Barcelona, has agreed to join Spanish outlet Real Betis on a 5-year deal.
Real Betis confirmed on Friday evening that they have reached an agreement with FC Barcelona for Cristian Tello. The FC Barcelona product will join Betis on a €4m deal which will keep him at the club until 2022.
According to reports in Spain, Zenit St Petersburg were interested in the Spain international but he snubbed their offer to join Betis. Talks with Betis were put on hold after Zenit expressed their interest in Tello, but the negotiations with the Russian outlet broke up and the Andalusians restored their interest.
Cristian Tello appears to be very happy with this move. Soon after the deal was officially announced, Tell tweeted:
“Very happy and excited to begin this new stage of my career with Betis. I would like to thank the club for the faith they have shown in me”
Quique Setien, Real Betis’ new coach has hailed Tello’s signing as an excellent one. He considers Tello as a player who could lead his new project at the Benito Villamarin.
Tello spent the past two seasons on loan – firstly in the Portuguese Liga NOS with Porto then in Italy with Fiorentina.
