Mehtab Hossain, a name that has almost become immortalised with the East Bengal fans as he is on the verge of leaving the club after a decade long service. At a time when loyalty in football has become an almost lost entity, Hossain has served the Red and Gold for almost a decade since joining the club from Bagan.

In his glittering career he has won numerous accolades both being part of the team and individually. But none of those individual accolades were so glossy as the one he is going to get on 6th July. Mehtab Hossain is going to become the first Indian footballer who will have his postal stamp being published by the Postal department of India while being an active player.

The Defensive-midfielder will get this reward mainly by the dint of the joint initiative by ‘Vision of Bengal’ Forum and several Mehtab Hossain Fan clubs. On 6th July at 3PM at Calcutta Press Club, the Postal Department will publish postal stamps of Mehtab Hossain. Legendary Pradip Kumar Banerjee will do the honour of publishing the first stamp.

Ex-Indian Cricketer and current Minister of Bengal-Lakshmi Ratan Shukla will be present on the occasion as the chief guest alongside other dignitaries. Poems and Music albums will also be launched on the occasion. Vision of Bengal will give away wheel-chairs to the accident struck East Bengal fans. Mehtab will also be awarded by ‘Best Bengalee footballer of the year’ Award by the Fans’ Forum that day.

While being asked about the honour, Mehtab said,

“I am considering this as the biggest achievement of my life. I am grateful to the fans. I am really happy to know about the initiative by Vision of Bengal. It will inspire me for the rest of my career. My social responsibilities also get increased. I never expected of getting such a reward at the twilight of my career.”

Aloke Banerjee, the Chairman of Vision of Bengal said,

“We have taken this initiative keeping his contributions both on and off the field in mind. We are proud to publish the postal stamp of a great footballer. We want to take initiatives to reward other sports-persons in future”.
