AS Roma have completed the signing of Dutch full-back Rick Karsdorp from Feyenoord Rotterdam on a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June, 2022.

The club further confirmed that the initial fee of the deal is worth €14 million with an additional payment of €5 million depending on various performance level clauses.

The 22-year-old had a wonderful campaign last season in which he made 30 appearances and helped Feyenoord win the Eredivisie title after 18 years.

“Coming to AS Roma is a great step forward for me,” Karsdorp said after signing the new deal. “I come here with a great desire and enthusiasm to play and to realise my dreams.”

“I know I still have a lot of room to improve and I hope to do that here.”

Karsdorp came through the youth ranks of Feyenoord and made over 100 appearances before joining the Giallorossi. He was also part of the squad that won the KNVB-Beker Cup (Dutch Cup) in 2016, playing the full 90 minutes in the final.

“Despite his young age, Rick has already shown he possesses great talent,” Roma Sporting Director Monchi said. “We are delighted to be able to sign him, and are certain that his attributes will fit in well with the way coach Eusebio Di Francesco wants to play.”

He made his full debut for the Netherlands national team in October 2016 in a World Cup qualifier against France. His last appearance came in March in their 2-0 loss to Bulgaria.

Karsdorp has been given the No. 26 shirt for the upcoming season.
