Reliance may become sponsors of Mohun Bagan
With the advent of the new season, football fans keep their eyes sticked to any news regarding their beloved club. Arrival of any new footballer, any new sponsorship deal etc. always remain at the centre of attention.
For the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club fans in Kolkata, such a situation of optimism may arise. Sources claim that Reliance foundation may become the main sponsor of the century-old club ahead of the upcoming season.
The rumour came through almost a month ago about the Bagan officials having contact with Reliance via IMG-R but since the debaculous situation of getting adrift from ISL, the rumours went dim. The activities of Mohun Bagan in the transfer market were also lacking prominence.
But the recent few acquisitions rekindled the issue. According to Sources, if Reliance sponsors Bagan, then they will do it via one of their brands, preferably JIO. They will not sponsor the Green and Maroon directly.
The club has suffered much due to lack of sponsorship for the last few seasons since UB group left. From the players remaining unpaid, to failure to rope in first choice players-financial shortcomings took a toll of the officials. Under such circumstances, such a deal if finally takes shape of reality, will do wonders for the club especially in a market where competition with ISL franchises are growing.
