Army XI withdraw their name from Calcutta Premier Division Football League
Army XI, the football team of Indian Army, who were a regular feature in the Calcutta Premier Division Football League have decided to withdraw their name from this season’s CFL.
The team will not feature in the upcoming season of CFL which will result in decrease in the number of teams in Group A of CFL.
The decision came mainly as a consequence of an incident from last season. In a heated match last season, the coach of the Army XI side kicked and abused one of the match officials for a decision that did not go in their favour. The coach was suspended from CFL by IFA as a result of this. The Army officials believe that such a huge disciplinary loss can’t be tolerated and have decided not to participate in this year’s CFL.
Army XI has been a reputed side for the last few seasons. They finished 6th last season and 2nd ahead of Bagan and Mohammedan in the season before that. Players like Arjun Tudu even got selected in the National team for performances with Army XI. Their withdrawal will be a prominent loss for CFL this season.
