Chelsea forward Bertrand Traore joins Lyon
Burkina Faso forward signs a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 side for a reported fee of £8.8m.
The 21-year-old Burkina Faso International has spent recent seasons on loan for Vitesse Arnhem and Ajax and now he will join the Ligue 1 outfit on a contract until 2022.
The French club announced the signing on Twitter:
“It is official: Bertrand Traore is Lyonnais! A transfer for €10m (£8.8m) and a five-year contract.”
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas also said Chelsea will earn 15 percent of any profit from a future sale of the player and the Premier League champions will have the first refusal should Traore eventually move on.
The 21-year-old had an impressive season at Ajax scoring 9 goals in the Eredivisie. But his main heroics came during the Europa League as he bagged 4 goals and 4 assists and helped Ajax to reach the finals, where they eventually lost to Manchester United.
Traore is delighted with the move as he told OLTV:
“I am very happy to be here, to be Lyonnais. Lyon has always been an impressive club, with big players and a great history. It is an honour for me to play here.“I am going to bring something extra to OL and I hope to continue progressing and learning with the coach and my new team-mates.”
He also added: “I have been looking to have stability and, in signing a contract with OL, I could not ask for more. I have the time to show everyone what I can do.”
Traore joined Chelsea in 2013 after emerging as Auxerre’s academy, but the young talented forward never managed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge. But after his successful loan stint at Ajax, he is now looking to carve out a long-term role for himself at Lyon.
Traore will be hoping that he can carry the same form that he had at Ajax and bring glory to the Ligue 1 outfit.
