‘The Special One’ loses the special man of his life
The Manchester United manager announced the passing of his father via his Instagram account. Mourinho posted a touching black and white photo of himself as a child alongside his father.
Jose Manuel Mourinho Felix aka Mourinho’s father had been batting with a long-term illness and the Manchester United manager frequently flew to Portugal last season to visit his father.
He was in and out of the hospital since Mourinho’s second stint at Chelsea and was last June diagnosed with pneumonia.
Felix, a former goalkeeper made his Primeira Liga debuts in 1958–59 with Vitória de Setúbal. He spent 13 seasons with Vitória de Setúbal where he won two Portuguese Cup titles. He also played for another Premeira side C.F. Os Belenenses. He made more than 250 appearances as a goalkeeper for Vitoria Setubal and Belenenses in his career along with one for the national team.
He kicked off his coaching career in 1976 and went on to coach the likes of Amora FC, Rio Ave FC and Vitória de Setúbal. As a coach, Felix won the Portuguese Second Division title three times, the Third Division once.
According to the Portuguese media, the funeral is due to take place on Tuesday.
