Former Bundesliga champions Hamburg SV have signed goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck on a four-year deal from 2.Bundesliga side FC Kaiserslautern.

The 22-year-old made 31 appearances for Kaiserslautern last season, keeping 14 clean sheets and conceding just 27 goals as the club finished 13th in the league.

“I’d like to thank Kaiserslautern for the last few years and wish them all the best for the coming season,” Pollersbeck said in a statement to Hamburg’s official website. “Now I’m looking forward to a new chapter in the Bundesliga with Hamburg and I hope we can achieve our aims together.”

The German international is currently part of the U-21 squad that has already qualified for the semi-finals of the U-21 European Championship.

Hamburg’s Sporting Director Jens Todt further said:

“Julian is a young and very talented goalkeeper who showed his potential with Kaiserslautern last season. We’ve been observing him for a long time and are convinced of his qualities.”

Hamburg had a torrid campaign last season in which a narrow victory in the final matchday against Wolfsburg, ensured relegation safety, sending Wolfsburg
instead to the relegation play-offs.

They will look to bounce back next season as Die Rothosen construct a youth-centric squad.
