Gotze starts his training to make a comeback
The 2014 World Cup final match-winner has been sidelined since February with a metabolic disorder but Mario Gotze is exercising again and is not far off from returning to training.
The attacker has been sidelined since February due to myopathy. For an athlete, myopathy could prove to be extremely problematic as it causes increased weakness and fatigue in the muscles, which means Götze will struggle to recover physically after each performance.
Götze’s underwhelming performance in 2016/17 may be an outfall of this rare “metabolic disorder”. In the 2016/17 campaign, he made just 16 appearances and had an underwhelming tally of two goals and two assists.
But five months on and the World Cup finale goal-scorer is back training and building up his fitness levels ahead of the new Bundesliga season.
Gotze posted a photo on his Instagram as he stepped up his recovery process with a light jog.
In addition, Dortmund Sporting Director Michael Zorc indicated in an interview with Bild on Thursday that Gotze’s return may not be far off.
“We are delighted that the therapy worked out that well. We are looking forward to welcoming him back to the pitch soon.” Zorc said.
