Women’s Champions League 2017 by Western India Football Association to kick-start tomorrow
The Women’s Championship by Western India Football Association(WIFA) is all set to kick start from Friday in the Cooperage ground. The tournament will take place from 23rd June to 8th July.
A total of eight clubs are participating in the tournament and they are from four districts of the state of Maharashtra. The four districts which are having representation in the WIFA Women’s Championship are: Mumbai, Kolhapur, Nagpur and Pune.
The eight clubs which will be participating from the four districts are as follows: Bodyline SC and Aadhar Pratishtan (Mumbai), United Poona SA and Pune City FC (Pune), Poddar International and KSA Women’s FC (Kolhapur) and Tirpude College and Tulip FC (Nagpur).
The eight clubs are divided into two groups of four teams each-Group A and Group B. Bodyline SC, United Poona SA, Poddar International and Tulip FC are forming Group A while Group B consists of Pune City FC, KSA Women’s FC, Aadhar Pratishtan and Tripude College.
The initiative has also won corporate backing and the tournament will be sponsored by leading brands like EnerzaL, Cosco, Footballcounter alongside other co-sponsors.
The initiative of Women’s Championship by WIFA is under a broader project of All India Football Federation. It’s a part of AIFF-State Development project. The elite body in Indian football organized inaugural Indian Women’s League few months back to promote women’s football in the country.
