BDFA B Division league ends in B’lore with Young Challengers crowned champions
The BDFA B Division league ended yesterday at Bangalore with the Young Challengers emerging victorious. They beat the Royals in the grand finale in a penalty shootout to be crowned the B Division League Champions.
The league started with a total of 14 teams divided into two groups of 7 teams each. Young Challengers and Royals reached the final after ending the group stage as the leaders of their groups. Young Challengers won all of their matches on their road to the climax.
The final started on an even note with both sides having fair share of chances. But Royals struck the first blood on the 11th minute when Ashwin netted the ball for the eventual runners-up giving them a one goal cushion. But Young Challengers took just 17 minutes to restore parity as Surender scored the equalizer on the 28th minute.
The regulation time of 90 mins ended 1-1 and gradually the match rolled into tie-breaker. The Young Challengers there did the trick as they won the shootout 5-4 and thus edged past their rivals to lift the Bangalore Blues Cup. For a team which mainly have been made of U18 players from Ozone FC, this really is a prominent feat.
As per the rules, both Young Challengers and Royals get promoted to BDFA A Division for the next season being the top two teams of B Division. On the other end, Universal and Oriental get relegated to the C Division League.
