Celtic sign Irish midfielder Jonny Hayes
Scottish champions Celtic have signed 29-year-old Irish midfielder Jonny Hayes on a three-year deal from Aberdeen for a reported fee of £1.3 million. Celtic winger Ryan Christie will be again on loan to Aberdeen, as part of the deal.
Hayes has previously played under manager Brendan Rogers when he was the academy director at Reading FC. In an interview with the club’s official website, he said:
“This is a huge honour for me. It is a dream come true to be part of this brilliant football club and I can’t wait to get started.”
“Now it’s my chance and hopefully, going forward, I can create my own little bit of history and take the chance I’ve been given.”

The Irish midfielder joined Inverness Caledonian Thistle where he won the Scottish First Division title in his first season. After spending three successful seasons with the club, Hayes joined Aberdeen in 2012. Since then, he has been an integral part of manager Derek McInnes’ plan, who recently rejected the chance to take up the Sunderland role.
Incidentally, Hayes’ last game for Aberdeen was against Celtic in the Scottish Cup final where his early goal put his side ahead before goals from Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic secured the title for Celtic.
After winning the treble last season and being unbeaten in the league, Celtic prepare for the upcoming Champions League season where they play three qualifying rounds.
UEFA have announced that first round draw of the Champions League will take place on Monday.
