Guardiola eyeing German midfield maestro
Pep Guardiola is eyeing a reunion with Real Madrid and German midfielder Toni Kroos.
Pep and Kroos worked together at Bayern Munich in Guardiola’s very first season at the Allianz Arena. The following season Kroos was sold to Real Madrid for £24m owing much to Guardiola’s dissatisfaction.
Guardiola is a known admirer of the 27-year-old German international. He was heavily linked with a move for Kroos upon his arrival at Manchester City but no concrete offer was made from the Sky Blues’ side.
Now, Spanish publication Don Balon reports that Guardiola is ready to make a move for Kroos again this window.
Yaya Toure has extended his contract for one more year but this could be his last year at the Etihad. Fernandinho is already 32 and both of Delph & Fernando are expected to leave this summer. Guardiola did sign Ilkay Gundogan last summer and now he wants Kroos to partner his fellow countryman in the Sky Blues’ midfield.
Kroos seems to be happy at Real Madrid having own 2 Champions League titles with the Los Blancos in consecutive seasons, the latest of which came this year. Madrid won’t be too desperate to sell one of their key players either. But, as they are heavily linked with moves for David de Gea and Eden Hazard, a hefty transfer money can certainly change their mind.
