AC Milan have announced that Gianluigi Donnarumma will not extend his contract after talks were held between the club and his agent Mino Raiola.

Donnarumma’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season and a host of top European clubs are looking to sign him with Real Madrid the leading candidate in the current scenerio.

Club’s CEO Marco Fassone emerged after the meeting and said:

“Mino Raiola has told me Donnarumma’s decision not to extend [his contract],”
“The decision is final.”

Milan have already made four major signings this summer in André Silva, Franck Kessié, Mateo Musacchio and Ricardo Rodríguez. They will now look to invest in a top-class keeper as they continue strengthening their squad under the new Chinese ownership.

Fassone further added:

“In the past few days, sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli made a very big offer to the player, who evaluated it and today he informed us that he did not intend to renew,”

“We were confident that Gigio would be the goalkeeper of this new Milan; a pillar upon which we would build, but now we have to re-evaluate everything.”

“Former Milan keeper Giovanni Galli expressed his disappointment on the decision saying: “There must be respect for a club that has given a teenager this incredible opportunity to play regularly in Serie A.”

“If he wants to earn more, that’s one thing, but saying he won’t sign a renewal regardless of the terms is not fair. At this point, I want to know the real reasons he is not signing a renewal.”
